What Members Are Saying About the Benefits of Joining SVAMA
"I was a member of the AMA while working at Dialog Information Services, but was never active and never became a Silicon Valley chapter member. A colleague told me about SVAMA and I decided it would be an excellent networking opportunity for me.
SVAMA is a great networking opportunity, but as I become more involved, I realize it is SO MUCH MORE than just networking. The member-only events are invaluable and the online resources (e.g., webinars and web sites for both SVAMA and AMA) are fantastic.
Being a member and a volunteer for SVAMA has been a wonderful experience so far and well worth the membership fee. I plan on taking advantage of the wide variety of marketing education programs and will continue to explore both www.svama.org and www.marketingpower.com." --Elizabeth Handlin
Elizabeth's Profile: I have fifteen years of marketing experience in many areas: direct marketing, marketing communications, product marketing, and product management. Most recently I was at WageWorks as Marketing Director, and was responsible for marketing two web-based pre-tax benefit products to HR professionals at Fortune 1000 companies.
"My consulting business offers a wide variety of services in the areas of Marketing, Public Relations, and Sales. Clients are always in need of products or services that I don’t necessarily have on staff – a professional photographer, or, a direct mail database wizard, for example. When I need a recommendation for a product, service, or individual who can fill these client needs, I turn to the SVAMA Online Community. I post a question and within hours I have knowledge of who is the best and brightest provider of my need. Being able to draw on the collective knowledge and experience of the SVAMA saves me time, money, and makes for happy clients! " –Fred E. Jankowiak
Fred's Profile: I have been in the marketing and sales business for more than 20 years. Since 1995, I have formed a specialization in the use of the Internet as a marketing, sales, and public relations tool. I am now serving as SVAMA’s Director of Volunteer Relations.
I joined SVAMA to refine my knowledge and understanding of marketing communications. Auriga Corporation originally recruited me for project management and international business development assignments with their telecommunications practice. However, when I arrived at the company, there was a much greater need to deploy someone full-time on marketing
efforts. What I envisioned would be a six-month stint as a Marketing Associate has grown into a permanent position. Consequently, marketing has become my de facto career path, and as such I sought a professional organization to guide me in developing my skills and keeping current on industry trends." --Daniel Del Re
Daniel's Profile: I have several years' experience in business case analysis and justification for telecommunications, information technology, and transportation and industrial infrastructure projects. I have worked on U.S.-based projects and international development projects. I have a Bachelors in Engineering from Rutgers College of Engineering.
"Here are some thoughts on why I (re) joined:
1. As a marketing consultant, the AMA (and SVAMA, of course) provide an important pool of networking contacts for possible future business.
2. By volunteering, the different committees provide a means to build (or improve) skills in a non-threatening environment, i.e. your job is not on the line if you screw up.
3. This same volunteering is actually the best way to get to know other marketing professionals on a deeper level so that you are "top of mind" if they know someone who needs your skills.
4. For those in consulting, the SVAMA provides the "gather 'round the water cooler" companionship that's lacking in private practice." --Dave Roberts
Dave's Profile: For 8 years have been a brand consultant to technology companies. Before that and for 30 years have been in various brand management environments, including advertising agencies (D'Arcy, Grey, McCann) and clients (Visa International and Apple Computer).
