Executive

Gene Hall, President

Gene has over 30 years of executive-level experience in small to medium and start-up companies. He is currently the CEO of FamilyTrackers, Inc., a world-wide genealogy exchange that matches genealogists with public records, distant relatives, historical societies, and professionals who can help with the search. Gene has served SVAMA in a variety of positions including VP Market Research, VP CRM, and EVP Membership.

Alex Littlewood, President Elect

Alex Littlewood has dedicated the last 8 years to developing his marketing skillset through education, internships and professional experience. During his tenure in the Cal Poly (SLO) Orfalea college of business undergrad program, he completed marketing internships in automotive (GM), high technology (LSI Logic), and brand strategy consulting (Landor). Alex was appointed President of the Cal Poly AMA chapter in 2003, and served the position for one year.

After graduation in 2004 his professional experience began at Valassis, a $3-billion targeted consumer promotions and marketing services company specializing in Consumer Packaged Good’s. At Valassis, Alex managed targeted promotions programs for the worlds largest CPG’s such as Nestle, P&G, Clorox, Masterfoods, and Whitewave. In late 2006, Alex was recruited and relocated to the SF Bay Area to take a position with Liquid Agency in the Silicon Valley. Liquid Agency is the 2nd largest agency in Silicon Valley, and an authority in technology branding. As SVAMA VP of Communications, Alex aims to grow awareness and developed preferable positioning for SVAMA by reaching local marketing professionals at every touchpoint.

Gary is a visionary and thought leader in the emerging Marketing Operations field. He is a veteran with more than twenty-five years of marketing and change management experience in the technology and other industries in corporate, agency and entrepreneurial positions, where he directed corporate marketing, communications, public relations, lead generation and qualification, investor relations, and employee communications programs. Previously, he served as director of communications for ShoreTel, director of corporate marketing for Aplix Corporation and senior manager of corporate communications for Insignia Solutions. Before that, he worked as a director, account supervisor, or preferred subcontractor for more than a dozen leading public relations and marketing consulting firms. Marketing Operations Partners represents Gary’s fourth business start-up. He also founded Marketing Operations Partners’ sister company, CommPros Group in 2005; Katz Business Communications in 1990; and Public Relations Solutions, Inc. in 1985. Gary holds a master's degree in organization development from the University of San Francisco and a bachelor's degree in public relations from San Jose State University.

Chris has spent over ten years in the Information Technology industry, most of that time with Hewlett-Packard and Ingram Micro in the South Pacific Region.

During his time at Hewlett-Packard he held positions in Sales and Marketing across the consumer, commercial and enterprise markets for Hewlett-Packard’s Imaging and Printing (IPG) and consumer PC product categories. These roles have included working as a channel account manager, product manager, business development manager and market development manager.

In more recent times he held a position on HP IPG’s Senior Leadership Team as the National Marketing Manager for the Imaging and Printing Group within the South Pacific Region.

Chris originally joined Interstrat Corporation, a professional services firm focused on building marketing excellence within larger corporations as VP of Marketing.

During 2007, Interstrat merged with Gallagher Management to form a new organisation, MarketCulture Strategies Inc. A firm whose vision is to spark a global revolution in corporate cultures and marketing skill set growth based on the delivery of customer value, profitably. This vision expands beyond just building marketing excellence in the marketing function towards building a marketing culture across an entire firm. Chris is currently the CEO of this merged corporation.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Technology, Sydney with a major in marketing and a sub-major in financial management. He also holds a Master of Commerce Post-Graduate Degree (University of New South Wales, Australia) with an Advanced Specialization in Marketing.

Peder Hanson is a marketer and project manager with a strong background in quantitative analysis, professional training and cross-cultural communication. He has worked as a marketer and project manager for the past three years serving on projects ranging across the telecommunications, professional services and clean energy industries. Prior to this he spent three years as a trainer, including two years in the People's Republic of China. He currently works as a Value Consultant at MarketCulture Strategies and as a Project Manager with the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.

Dave Wagner has over 25 years of experience in technology and marketing. Before serving as vice president of marketing for Clearly Connected, he was vice president of marketing with CommerSel Software, a web content management software firm that acquired Website Paramedics. Before founding Website Paramedics Dave served as vice president of Internet marketing and online products at Xdrive Technologies, a secure online storage service of AOL. Prior to Xdrive Technologies, Dave served as director of marketing, for Callidus Software, a producer of enterprise incentive management software. He previously served as founding vice president, sales and marketing, for CustomerSat.com, an enterprise customer satisfaction measurement solution provider, vice president of Internet marketing at inquiry.com (now DevX, a division of Jupitermedia Corporation), a web destination and resource for information technology professionals, and director of electronic marketing at MicroWarehouse's Inmac division (now a part of CDW Corporation). Dave holds the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, magna cum laude, from Lubbock Christian University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Santa Clara University. Dave often teaches graduate marketing management, statistics, and e-Business at the University of Phoenix Online, where he serves as a part-time faculty mentor/trainer. Shilpa Lele has over eight years experience as a researcher and educator in marketing strategy and quantitative research. Her research interests include modeling international business-to-business and entertainment marketing activities. She has designed and taught global marketing strategy and marketing research courses at the business schools of Syracuse University, Purdue University, University of California Irvine, California State University Fullerton and California State University Long Beach. She has presented her work at Marketing Science conferences and has co-authored papers published in the International Journal of Research in Marketing and Marketing Letters. Shilpa has a Ph.D. in Management from Purdue University, an M.B.A. from Bombay University, India and an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Allahabad, India. Clara Kuo specializes in marketing communications messaging and strategy. She currently works with start-ups and non-profits in internet media and high-tech. Known for her creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, Clara takes a holistic approach to creating the best stories for companies to stand out in today's information age.

Clara is a MBA graduate of the Monterey Institute of International Studies Fisher School, one of the top 10 graduate schools for entrepreneurship. As a former expat from Hong Kong, Clara has experience working in cross-cultural environments. She speaks three foreign languages: Spanish, French, Mandarin.

BJ has over 20 years of international design, engineering project management, specifications, and procurement experience in semiconductor tools facilitation, HVAC/Clean room environments, semiconductor tool hook ups, oil, gas and power plants, and institutional facilities engineering and management. Currently he is working as Project Coordinator/Facility Engineer in the housing department at Stanford University. Ellen Taverner joined Cooley Godward Kronish in 2002 as Chief Marketing Officer. Her 20-plus years of creating and executing strategic initiatives across the disciplines of branding and positioning strategy, business development, marketing communications, advertising and public relations crosses the globe. Her category experience includes professional services, financial services, high technology and B2B.

In her current role, Ms. Taverner oversees the marketing, business development and communications functions that extend and expand Cooley’s brand.

A dual US/UK national, she served as Vice President of International Marketing at Nasdaq’s London-based International HQ, where she oversaw international business development, client service and communications activities. Ms. Taverner spent a number of years at Credit Suisse Asset Management as director and head of Global Corporate Communications. She established their first global corporate communications department and led teams in 15 countries on 5 continents.

Previously, she held senior consulting positions at the international consulting firms KPMG Management Consulting and Regis McKenna Inc. Her consulting emphasis was strategic marketing and corporate branding and her clients including British Telecom, Motorola, Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems and Texas Instruments.

Ms. Taverner has also served as vice president of sales and marketing at a privately held web-based software company and as market research manager and product marketing manager at Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation.

She is no stranger to the beach. She earned a bachelor’s degree with highest honors in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She completed post-graduate work in Systems Management at the University of Southern California and is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership’s Leadership Development Program.

Ms. Taverner currently serves on the Board of Directors, as Ethics Chair, for the Public Relations Society of America – Silicon Valley branch.

John Peterson brings over 20 years of product marketing and business development experience with enterprise software, telecommunications, and the largest web portal companies with more than half of that tenure in key executive management roles. Mr. Peterson has developed a reputation as a creative marketing strategist with success in identifying commercial partnerships, creating operational efficiencies, and developing customer experiences that lead to market domination. Peterson has held senior roles in and has contributed to the growth of several leading software and internet technology companies including Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, Sony, DirecTV (News Corp.), US/Web CKS, and Yahoo!. He has authored several papers presenting the impact of advanced service delivery on the growth of new technology adoption by the consumer and also speaks regularly at industry, technology, and financial forums. Mr. Peterson currently manages the Americas Online Games vertical market for Global Collect, an international payment service provider headquartered in the Netherlands. The Online Games vertical market includes partnerships with leading edge game sites in the world, for example, Blizzard’s World of WarCraft, CCP’s Eve Online, Sony Online Entertainment, and Linden Labs’ Second Life.

Mr. Peterson completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley where he was an award winning member of the Varsity Cal Crew team. He studied at Stanford and earned his MBA from the Graziadio Graduate School of Business at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. AnnMarie joined SVAMA in 2003 as a volunteer and active member. She has over 6 years of experience in market research, product marketing and competitive analysis. Currently, AnnMarie is working in the product and technology marketing division of Cisco Systems. Prior to Cisco, AnnMarie was responsible for marketing research and product surveys at a number of high technology companies including Sun Microsystems and Applied Biosystems. Earlier in her career, AnnMarie was a Market Research Analyst at iSuppli/Stanford Resources where she was responsible for gathering data and performing research on multi-client reports and custom studies. AnnMarie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and is currently pursuing an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Nancy Marx, Co-VP Direct Marketing

Design:Marx was founded by Nancy Marx in 1987 to help clients achieve their marketing objectives through the use of creative and effective graphic design. The company works with both start-ups and established companies, and handles a broad range of projects which includes brochures, annual reports, direct mail, logos, trade show graphics, newsletters, integrated branding, web sites and banner ads. Andreas' roots are firmly planted in global marketing. He spent 16 years in Germany, has lived and worked in France, the UK and Japan. He has a bachelor's degree from Alma College (Michigan) and a master's degree from the University of California, Davis.
He began his career in 1989 at Seagram & Sons in San Francisco, marketing wines from France and Germany in the US. When he had the opportunity to manage the office's network infrastructure, the pull of high tech was irresistible. He quickly taught himself UNIX, familiarized himself with the high tech sector and, in 1994, was hired by the French software firm Esker. There he headed up their global marketing department based in San Francisco. He worked as VP of International Marketing with Esker's offices in France, Germany, the UK, Spain and Italy, helping the company to grow ten-fold and successfully complete their IPO.
In 1997 Andreas joined the staff at JSB, a UK software company located in Scotts Valley (near San Jose) as their VP of Marketing. There he managed strategic and tactical marketing, perfecting the art of online campaigns. During this time, JSB went public, increased its global staff to over 350, its market cap to over $1 billion and changed names to SurfControl.
In 2001, Andreas became the co-founder and strategist behind Bloofusion, an online marketing agency that enables companies to take advantage of search engines, turning web sites into effective sales and marketing channels. Andreas frequently participates in seminars and moderates panels that focus on SEO. One of the favorites has been the Bloofusion Search Engine Boot Camp series in both the US and Europe.

Stephanie Won, Co-VP Promotions

Stephanie is a results–oriented marketer with 12 years experience in high technology marketing and marketing communications. She has broad marketing experience and her professional roles have included marketing communications, channel marketing, product marketing, and third party partnership alliances. She has worked for both large and mid-sized companies including Sony Electronics, Creative Labs, and Trident Microsystems, Inc. to name a few. Prior to high-tech, she was in consumer packaged goods. Stephanie received her master’s degree in marketing from Golden Gate University, a private college in San Francisco.

Her greatest accomplishment is being a mother to a three year old. She recently took time off to focus on family and is now currently working as a marketing consultant in the high-tech industry.

Sue is the founder of Snowy River Marketing, Inc. and a seasoned marketing executive with extensive experience in managing creative, product and market development resources. She has had resident management assignments in the United States, Japan and Australia, directing programs, projects and teams around the globe.

Past President – Michelle Graham

Michelle has a unique blend of skills and experience acquired over 18 years as a marketing professional and team communications consultant. She has worked with Fortune 1000 businesses, non profits, and start ups to increase their effectiveness in team management, communications, and marketing. Michelle coaches CEOs, senior executives and mid-level employees on team dynamics, communications skills, improving personal performance, and personal image.
Michelle recognized a gap in traditional team and communications consulting and started New Impressions to offer a complete package for team improvement. New Impressions focuses on five key areas:

Sarah, founder of Market4Demand™ (http://www.market4demand.com) and Market4Demand's Marketing Educational Series for Entrepreneurs™, has over 18 years marketing, sales and management experience, 13 of which have been in technology. She has worked with leading technology companies, including Digital Equipment Corporation (Compaq), Delrina (Symantec) and Fujitsu as well as many startups in a broad range of categories, including communications, e-commerce, education, entertainment, Internet browsers, multimedia, portals, productivity, security, services, supply chain, and UNIX workstations. She has been helping Market4Demand's clients market their technology products and services to sell since 1996 and her areas of marketing expertise are Marcom, channel marketing and demand generation strategies and programs. An author of children's stories, she is also the Editor-in-Chief of MARKETING FOR VALUE and is on the education panel of the eMarketing Association. Sarah holds a B.A. in English from San Francisco State University, an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and several writing diplomas and certificates.

Past President – Cynthia Holladay

Cynthia was Past President of SVAMA for 2 terms (2000-2001 and 2001-2002) and previously a member of its Board of Directors as Vice-President Programs for 2 terms (1998-1999 and 1999-2000). Under her leadership, the SVAMA achieved the AMA’s highest award, “Chapter of the Year” Award and special merit award for chapter management over all other chapters worldwide. Cynthia has 20 years experience in high-tech marketing and software, and has held executive positions in software engineering, product management, sales, and marketing. She was on the design team that delivered the first commercial ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) product sold in New England; worked with Turing-award winner Charlie Bachman at BACHMAN Information Systems, an early CASE tool company that went public in 1991; delivered the Customer Data Mart product line for Aspect Communications and later helped reposition the $600M communications equipment company as an eCRM software provider. Cynthia was vice president marketing for Vuent, Inc., a collaborative product development start-up acquired by Oracle; and is now CEO of UpRight Marketing, a business and marketing consultancy that helps technology companies build long-term value for customers and stakeholders. She is Board Advisor for two early stage software companies, Chair for the Computer History Museum Fellow Awards, and ia member of the AMA Professional Chapters Council and Strategic Task Force. Cynthia is a frequent speaker on industry and marketing trends and earned a bachelor’s degree in music from USC and a master’s degree from the Boston Conservatory of Music.

Past President - Lynn Hunsaker

Lynn Hunsaker develops customer retention strategies and processes as founder of ClearAction and team leader of Marketing Operations Partners' suite of Customer Profitability services. In 20 years at Applied Materials, Business Insights, Tragon, and Sonoco, Lynn directed product management, alliances, market research, marcom, customer satisfaction improvement, metrics, quality tools, recognition and executive incentive programs, process improvement, and change management. She is an AMA Professional Certified Marketer, ASQ Certified Quality Manager, and Qualified MBTI® Practitioner. Lynn teaches courses at UC Berkeley Extension, SJSU and Mission College. She earned psychology and marketing degrees at Brigham Young University and an MBA at Vanderbilt University. For 10 years Lynn participated on the SVAMA Board of Directors, including chapter President in 1998-1999, when SVAMA received AMA’s Chapter Excellence Award for overall performance relative to similar size chapters. Her SVAMA roles span Programs and Seminars VP, Marketing Essentials Seminar Series VP, Treasurer, and Volunteer Recruiter, and participation on several committees.
